Regional fire department could be formed in south Snohomish County

Seven south Snohomish County cities may team up to form one large fire department.
Tonight the mayors and city councils of Lynnwood, Brier, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Mill Creek, Mukilteo and Woodway will meet to discuss the possibility of forming a Regional Fire Authority.

New sidewalks near Lynnwood Elementary will create a safer route to school

A busy street near Lynnwood Elementary School will be getting sidewalks thanks to a state grant.
The city was awarded the money from the state’s “Safe Routes to School” program. Crews are expected to start building sidewalks next summer (2012) on 48th Ave. W. between 180th and 183rd.

Police plan stepped up patrols for Super Bowl Sunday

Five years later, Nicole Pietz case remains unsolved

Five years ago today, 32-year-old Nicole Pietz disappeared from her Lynnwood home. She wouldn’t  be heard from again.
Her body was found Feb. 6, 2006 in a wooded area in Burien. Police say she had been strangled to death.  Her 2003 Volkswagen Jetta was found in the University District about two weeks later.

Woman robbed at James Village shopping center

Some business owners concerned about higher employee fees

Some small business owners say Lynnwood’s increased employee tax is creating a hardship for them.
This year the fee that businesses pay for each employee went from $15.50 to $85, an increase of almost 600 percent. The new revenue helped fill a $22 million budget hole.
