Neither the bank nor Detoroit Auto Works have any control over whether the fireworks stand would be allowed to operate. The story below has been updated to reflect that.) — It was supp... »

It happened after the pair had some sort of argument. The student was booked for misdemeanor assault and minor exhibiting th... »

Police union files grievance over low officer staffing levels

Concern is growing over what many city officials see as a dangerously low level of police staffing. The current budget calls for 71 sworn officers. Right now there are just 64 officers (down from 80 prior to 2011), and department leaders say the shortage is putting officers and the public at risk. In a report to the full  council, City Councilman Jim Smith gave an example of actual police staffing... »

Police issuing ‘tickets’ for good deeds

Lynnwood police are issuing “tickets” to kids who are caught in the act of doing good deeds. Each one is redeemable for a free Slupree. 7-Eleven developed Operation Chill  in 1996 to positively reward and encourage good behavior by kids over the summer, when there is often an increase in loitering, shoplifting and graffiti. Lynnwood PD has other ideas for safe and positive summertime a... »

No 4th of July show in Lynnwood could mean bigger crowds in Edmonds

Lynnwood’s annual 4th of July fireworks show was cut for the second year in a row due to the budget crunch. If last year is any indication, that will mean more residents will head to Edmonds to catch the fireworks. The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the show, estimates there were up to 10,000 people there last year, an increase of about seven percent. And that’s with cloudy... »
