95 arrests made countywide during St. Patrick’s Day DUI patrols

Nearly 100 impaired drivers were taken off the road during St. Patrick’s Day DUI emphasis patrols.

Lynnwood police, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol were among the agencies who took part in the special patrols March 5- 18.

Preliminary results show that 1,063 impaired drivers were arrested across the state during the two-week crackdown. Ninety-five of those came in Snohomish County.

“Ultimately, it is each person’s responsibility to make the right choice,” said Conrad Thompson, Chair of the Snohomish County DUI & Target Zero Task Force. “Everyone needs to think before they drink so they have a safe ride home planned ahead of time.”

Extra patrols were paid for by an overtime grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

In 2010, 59 percent of traffic deaths in Snohomish County involved an impaired driver – higher than the state average of 52 percent.
