A car thief was captured in Lynnwood after he abandoned the vehicle and a K-9 tracked him down Monday.
The incident was reported at 11:10 a.m. at the 7-Eleven parking lot near the intersection of 168th Street Southwest and Highway 99.
“The victim left his vehicle, described as an older Chevrolet Blazer, running and the suspect jumped in and fled south,” Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Sean Doty said. “An officer spotted the vehicle moments later near 200th Street Southwest and Highway 99.”
A brief pursuit began, and the suspect vehicle turned to head northbound on Highway 99.
“Another officer saw it, and presumably the suspect saw the officer, because he immediately drove into a business area just south of Petsmart,” Doty said.
The driver abandoned the vechile in the area and a K-9 track was started by Ofc. Joe Dickinson and K-9 Zando.
“The driver jumped some fences and ended up being taken into custody near some businesses in the 5800 block of 188th Street Southwest at about 11:22 (a.m.),” Doty said.
Several community members assisted in locating the individual, Doty added.
