Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a federal Department of Defense office, has presented Community Transit of Snohomish County with an Above and Beyond Award in recognition of extraordinary support of their employees who are active in the National Guard and Reserves.

Washington ESGR’s John Van Dalen presented the award to Community Transit Chief Executive Officer Emmett Heath at the agency’s monthly board meeting.

“Community Transit is proud to count members of the National Guard and Reserve among its employees, and we honor the service they continue to provide to our country,” Heath said.

Community Transit actively recruits new employees at local military job fairs and through the Everett Naval Base and Joint Base Lewis McCord. Also, Community Transit provides generous benefits to active Guard and Reservists when they are called to duty.

“The Above and Beyond Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize companies and government employers who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen-warriors before them, have answered the nation’s call to serve,” Van Dalen said.

ESGR seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserves. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for the National Guard and Reserves by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and polices, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD.

Paramount to ESGR’s mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who embody integrity, global perspective and proven leadership in the civilian workforce.
