Friday, May 19, Skolkis—four extroardinary folk musicians—will pull out all the stops when they release their third Nordic folk music CD, “Shine.” The fun begins at 8:30 pm at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 – 52nd Avenue W., in Lynnwood. The evening, sponsored by Skandia Folkdance Society, features unbeatable dance music, but “listeners, only” are welcome.
Fiddlers Emma Anderson, Martha Levenson, Vicki Watt Warshaw, and guitarist EJ Landsman will take listeners on a rollicking musical tour of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. They’ll play original arrangements from the new CD, plus selections written by renowned Scandinavian artists. The result is music that lightens the heart and step, lifts the spirit, and moves an audience to clamor for more. Here’s a link to Skolkis playing a few tunes from their CD: www.soundcloud.com/skolkis. Skolkis, in Swedish, is slang for “playing hooky,” and it’s a good fit for the group’s playful stage presence. Skolkis members are featured performers at the NW Folklife Festival, and they are much sought-after dance musicians. Don’t miss this delightful group!
