Lynnwood’s Lord, Meadowdale’s Ball advance to state wrestling semifinals

Lynnwood’s Hunter Lord and Meadowdale’s Ciaran Ball both advanced to the semifinals after the first day of action Friday at Mat Classic XXVII in the Tacoma Dome.

Lord recorded a pair of pins in his two matches in the Class 4A 160-pound division. He’ll face Tahoma’s Tucker Mjelde in the semifinals Saturday morning (scheduled for 10:50 a.m.). Our news partner, the Seattle Times, caught up with Lord after his quarterfinal victory.

The last time Lynnwood had a state champion was 2003.

“It’s been awhile since Lynnwood had a wrestling state champ, so hopefully I can get it,” Lord said.

Ball also pinned both of his opponents in the Class 3A 195 division. His pin in the quarterfinals only took 33 seconds. Ball takes on Lincoln’s Aliyas Fletcher in the semifinals (scheduled for 11:10 a.m.).

Meadowdale’s Dee Dee Free won her first match by pin and then lost in the quarterfinals. Free rebounded with a pair of victories in the consolation bracket and will be wresting at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday.
