Everyone knows what it’s like to have a bad day, so one group is working to make someone’s day a little brighter.
On Saturday, March 5, a group will gather in Lynnwood to give back to the community by spreading smiles.
“I think we’ve all had that crummy day where someone just smiling at you and saying something nice just turned it all around,” event organizer Penny Kellam said.
It’s called the Happiness Sprinkling project. Community members will gather t the corner of 196th Street Southwest and Alderwood Mall Parkway wearing bright yellow shirts and smile, wave and hold up signs with positive messages.
The only goal is to make someone else smile.
“We’ve all had those days, all of us,” Kellam said. “Hopefully this will turn around that crummy day for someone, or make a good day even better.”
The group will gather at the Barnes and Noble, located at 19401 Alderwood Mall Pkwy., at 1 p.m. to get organized before heading to the intersection. They play to sprinkle happiness until about 3 p.m.
Everyone is invited to join them for any period of time between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. All neighbors need to do is wear a yellow shirt and “be ready to smile.”
“Having a group of people around you with the same motivation to give back to the community to make the world a better place is always a good thing,” Kellam said.
Signs will say things like “Why not?” or “Life is good” or “You rock” to give a little random encouragement to people walking or driving by the intersection on March 5.
Kellam says people from all around Puget Sound will be there to spread some cheer to a busy intersection.
