Tritons men’s soccer team moves into first place

The Edmonds Community College men’s soccer team moved into first place in the NWAC North standings after a 7-1 victory over Everett CC Wednesday night at Triton Field.

Leading the EdCC offense was sophomore JJ Schmeck who scored four goals against the Trojans.

The Tritons improved to 6-3-1 in the league and 6-6-2 overall, while Everett fell to 2-7-1 and 3-8-2.

Edmonds head coach Brandon Mitalas shook up the Triton lineup with 10 new starters. Joey Briner made that decision pay off early with a goal at the 3-minute mark. Trojan Adrian Cayetano evened the score at the 12-minute mark with a ball into the EdCC net.

By halftime the usual starters were in the game and the Triton offense sprang to life.

Schmeck scored on a penalty kick in the 48th minute, Miguel Medina sent one home in the 50th, Schmeck would put in three more at the 55th, 78th and 83rd minutes. Ivan Idro ended the barrage with a goal in the 89th minute.

Five Tritons recorded assists: Zach Bush, Cristhian Robles, Carlos Videla, Sergey Ptachik and Briner.

Arturo Oberto saved four shots on goal.

Edmonds is back in action this Saturday when they host Shoreline at 2:15 pm. The Dolphins come into the game with a 2-6-1 and 3-8-1 record.
