Police made 23 arrests on the first night of DUI patrols

Officers are briefed in Lynnwood before they began their patrols Friday night.

Police in Lynnwood and around Snohomish County arrested 23 suspected impaired drivers this past Friday night — the first night of the “Night of 1000 Stars” emphasis patrols.

One out of every 12 drivers stopped was arrested for suspicion of DUI. There were also several crashes involving drunk drivers, and one driver was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs after going 100 miles an hour on I-5.

“We are very fortunate that these 23 suspected impaired drivers were removed from our roadways before causing a crash that resulted in injury or death of an innocent victim” said Tracy McMillan, Snohomish County DUI & Target Zero Task Force Manager.  “Please make your plans now for the upcoming holidays so that you have a safe ride home.”

The final numbers for the weekend are still being tallied. The emphasis patrols — which involve the State Patrol, Sheriff’s Office and several local jurisdictions — will continue throughout the holidays.
