City officials are getting ready to cut the ribbon on the new 196th pedestrian bridge. A ceremony is planned for next week.
The elevated walkway crosses the southbound I-5 off-ramp at 196th and will make it easier for pedestrians and bicyclists to connect to the Interurban Trail and Alderwood Mall Boulevard. Crews also widened the sidewalk on the north side of 196th and installed new lighting.
The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29 on 195th Place SW just off 36th Ave W behind FedEx/Kinko’s.
The $5.65 million project was paid for by federal stimulus dollars.
This is the second pedestrian improvement project opening in Lynnwood this year. The new 44th Avenue overpass opened in August.
