The street construction on 212th Street Southwest that has caused traffic delays and commuter headaches between 44th and 52nd Avenues West in Mountlake Terrace is complete, according to officials in the city’s engineering department.

The final step for the project’s completion was hanging a street sign on a signal mast arm at the major intersection of 212th Street and 44th Avenue.

The project was a joint effort between the cities of Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood with funding, in part, from the Federal Highway Administration.

While curbs, sidewalks, sewer and drainage systems received upgrades, the biggest changes likely to be noticed by drivers will be the smoother street surface and the reconfigured lanes on 212th Street. What used to be a four-lane arterial, 212th Street, now has one lane in each direction for vehicle traffic, a bicycle lane in each direction along the curbs, and a general-purpose left-turn lane down the center.
