Fire District 1 is inviting residents to a meeting tonight to talk about four brush fires that were intentionally set in a wooded greenbelt surrounded by homes east of Lynnwood.
It will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Hilltop Fire Station 22 (20510 Damson Road.) Firefighters and an investigator from the Fire Marshal’s Office will talk about the fire response, the investigation and offer safety tips.
This month firefighters have responded to four fires in the wooded area southeast of 199th Pl. SW and 12th Ave. W. All fires have been contained to the wooded area and no homes have been damaged.
“The area is steep and covered with thick vegetation, making it difficult for firefighters to access. It takes about 350 feet of fire hose to get water to the site,” said Leslie Hynes, spokesperson for Fire District 1. “The biggest fire burned a 20-foot by 50-foot area of brush. Firefighters have been able to quickly contain the fires, but making sure they’ve extinguished all the hot spots takes at least an hour.”
The fires are being investigated as arson.
