Meadowdale Music Department Shines
Once again, the MHS Music Department. takes it on the road and brings home multiple awards. April 20 Jazz Festival in Tri-Cities turned out to be a great weekend with all six musical groups performing. Judi Zickafoose, proud program booster, reported: “They all received excellent feedback from the festival’s clinicians and were recognized by the festival’s director for their support of the other ensembles throughout the weekend. Four of the six choirs were invited to perform again at the festival’s evening concerts. All in all, it was a fantastic experience.”
Meadowdale won the following awards: First Place Concert Choir – Division 2 (MDHS Combined Choir) First Place Non-Mixed Jazz Choir (MDHS Women’s Choir) First Place Jazz Choir – Division 2 (MDHS Impressions) Outstanding Choral Department – Division 2 Jazz Choir Sweepstakes Award Second Place Non-Mixed Jazz Choir (MDHS Men’s Choir) Outstanding Rhythm Section (MDHS Impressions and MDHS Men’s Choir) Outstanding Soloists: Nick Sanchez, Ryan Petriello, Ori Levari, Angela Birchman, Alex Rivarola, Jacob Volz, Brandt Reutimann, Hiro Kaneda, Katie Tussing, Taylor Zickefoose, Jon Carroll, Adam Clobes
Music Boosters and the MDHS Library team up to host a Barnes and Noble Book Fair fundraiser
The Meadowdale High School Music Boosters and Library invite you to join them on May 5, noon to 3 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble located at 19401 Alderwood Mall Pkwy in Lynnwood, for an afternoon of music while you browse and shop for books, magazines or games. The event will include a performance by the MHS Jazz Combo and Orchestra String Quartets, poetry reads by MHS students, and the opportunity to vote for their first annual Maverick bookmark, designed by MHS students. In addition, drama students will be performing from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., as well!
Alderwood Barnes and Noble has agreed to support the MHS Library and Music Boosters by contributing a percentage of the net sales from this event to MHS. Barb Childs studied pottery at Central Washington University while earning a degree in Business Administration and Community Health Education. She has over 25 years of experience working in the studio, teaching pottery and organizing local art shows, including chairing the Edmonds Art Studio Tour for four years. She also spent 13 years teaching art in a K-8 school. Barb’s work may be seen in Semantics Gallery, Shoreline Arts Council Gallery, Schack Art Center and many local seasonal shows.
