Van AuBuchon has pulled ahead in his race with incumbent Jim Smith for the Lynnwood City Council… by just a hair.
AuBuchon now has a four vote lead, according to the last tally released Thursday evening.
On Thursday, Snohomish County Auditor Carolyn Weikel told us they had about 165 votes left to count. Adding up the latest totals, it appears roughly 80 votes still need to be counted.
Either way, this race will likely be headed for a hand recount because it meets the threshold of less than one-quarter of one percent separating the top two candidates. The next update comes tonight at 5 p.m.
We’re awaiting comment from each of the candidates about this extremely tight race.
Three of the four City Council seats are tight races. The only incumbent with a comfortable lead is Loren Simmonds. Both Ted Hikel and Ed Dos Remedios are losing, but those races may be eligible for a recount.
I hope the councilmembers are getting the message that the voters are watching them, weighing their performance, and are not too pleased with what they are witnessing.
