Police shoot and kill black bear near Lynndale Elementary

Lynnwood police shot and killed a black bear Monday morning by Lynnwood police after it ran through yards, KIRO TV is reporting.

Shannon Sessions with Lynnwood police said the bear was spotted Sunday night and chased through the night by wildlife officials.

Sessions said the animal was loosely contained near Highway 99 and Southwest 196th Street.

The bear was killed in the driveway of a home at Southwest 192nd Street and 68th Avenue Southwest at about 6:20 a.m.

The bear was killed a few blocks east of Lynndale Elementary School.

KIRO TV has video of the bear running through neighborhoods and police eventually shooting it.

  1. thats so sad….our police department needs to be prepared for anything. and that includes tranquilizer guns for putting that bear to sleep while they return him to his home. not kill him.
