A fire that broke out at an abandoned house in Brier yesterday has been ruled an arson.
Neighbors called 911 at 5:48 p.m. to report smoke coming from the house in the 23700 block of 29th Ave. W. The house has been vacant since it was heavily damaged by a fire in March 2009.
Smoke was coming from the eaves of the boarded-up house when firefighters arrived. They broke through the front door and quickly extinguished a fire in the garage.
Firefighters from Fire District 1 and Lynnwood responded. There were no injuries.
The house contained debris from the 2009 fire, which caused more than $350,000 damage and displaced a family of six.
Neighbors told firefighters they heard a noise that sounded like wood cracking and saw two boys walking quickly away from the house shortly before the fire.
Fire District 1 and the Brier Police Department are investigating.
