Build-A-Bear line shut down due to crowd concerns for ‘Pay Your Age Day’

Lines were so long for Build-A-Bear’s “Pay Your Age” campaign Thursday morning that the line had to be shut down by 9:20 a.m. according to the Alderwood Mall Facebook page. Lines began forming before 7:30 a.m.

Long lines wound from the center of the mall to the Build-A-Bear store at one end of Alderwood Mall.

Ron, a Build-A-Bear employee, told Lynnwood Today that as of 11:30 a.m., the store had helped 2,000 people. There were 1,000 bears left. Remaining customers in line were to be given vouchers to purchase bears at a future date.

One customer near the head of the line waited over three hours, since 8:30 a.m., so she could buy two bears for her kids, ages 6 and 11. The total cost: $17.

Though bears were selling for the age of the customer Thursday, the cutoff was 29, so anyone over 29 years old could have paid just $29.
