Bus drivers and firefighters take part in back-to-school training

Snohomish County Fire District 1 firefighters Mike Read and Tanner Friebel stand-by as Gary Westerman uses a saw to cut through the roof of a school bus during an extrication drill.

Don’t be alarmed by that overturned school bus. It was only a drill.

Today firefighters participated in back-to-school training at the Edmonds School District bus base near Alderwood Mall.

The district was doing a training event for bus drivers, and firefighters demonstrated extrication and rescue techniques. The buses they used had been previously damaged in crashes and could no longer be used to transport students.

Firefighters from Snohomish County Fire Districts 1 and 7, and the Lynnwood and Mukilteo fire departments participated.

  1. This was a great training event for everyone.
However, the buses we used weren't put out of service due to accidents, but were noble old buses that each had many years and hundreds of thousands of miles on them.

  2. Thanks for the clarification. That was the information I received from the fire department.
