An arson might be the cause of a fire that heavily damaged Canopy World just south of Lynnwood.
Dozens of firefighters from Fire District 1, Lynnwood and Shoreline fire departments responded to the 21500 block of Highway 99 about 6:30 p.m. yesterday. The business was closed at the time.
A witness told police about a man running from the scene and driving off. The witness gave police a vehicle and suspect description.
“An Edmonds officer located the vehicle and attempted to stop it,” Edmonds Police Sgt. Don Anderson said. “The driver failed to yield and a short pursuit ensued. The vehicle quickly lost control on the wet roadway and the driver was taken into custody.”
The driver, a 36-year-old Seattle man, had burns on his hands and face. He was taken to the Harborview Medical Center and remains in police custody.
About 30 firefighters responded and it took a half-hour to get the fire under control.
