Lynnwood Police Department looking for volunteers

Citizens Patrol

The Lynnwood Police Department is recruiting new members for its Citizens Patrol.

This group of 70 men and women act as extra eyes and ears for officers. They look for DUIs, direct traffic at collisions scenes, write disabled parking tickets, help with vehicle lock-outs, patrol parks and shopping areas, and help with weather-related or crime scene emergencies.

Members receive extensive training (usually scheduled in the evening) before they begin.  Applicants must be reasonably physically fit and be able to pass a criminal history background check. Volunteers usually work at least 10 hours a month and uniforms and gear are provided.

  1. Does anyone know – do you have to be a Lynnwood resident to volunteer?

I just just outside the city limits.

  2. I just heard from Trudy Dana at Lynnwood PD:

“Although most Citizens Patrol members live in Lynnwood, that is not a requirement. We had had members come from as far away as Burien and Arlington.”
