A water main break in the early morning hours of Nov. 1 on 212th Street Southwest east of 60th Avenue West on the Lynnwood-Mountlake Terrace border has been temporarily patched up but will require more repairs in the future.

“We had seven homes without water for several hours but our crews were able to restore water and do some temporary patches,” City of Lynnwood spokeswoman, Julie Moore said. “There is more extensive repair work to be done. We are working on a door hanger that will be given to all the residents along 212th.”

The City of Mountlake Terrace Public Works Dept. first noticed the break and reported it to Lynnwood Public Works. Lynnwood crews responded about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and 212th was closed until 11:30 a.m., when the main was repaired. A 1,000-foot stretch of 212th Street is still damaged, however, and signs are present to advise drivers to slow down over the torn up roadway.

On Wednesday, Nov. 11, starting at 11 a.m. the city’s contractor plans to close the 212th St. between 52nd Avenue West and 61st Avenue West to make a temporary water connection. The interim water connection will allow the city to provide water to the seven homes east of 60th Avenue West to isolate the damaged water main and prevent future breaks, according to a city press release.

During the street closure, consultants and other professionals working on the project will be at the site to evaluate the pavement and ground beneath it, to determine the scope of repairs needed. A construction schedule will follow.

The entire water main system from 52nd Avenue West and 61st Avenue West will be evaluated by the city since it may be necessary to replace some or all of the existing water pipe, because of the current material and age of system. The assessment should be completed within 30 days.

Water is still flowing to properties along 212th Street Southwest in the meantime.

A project information website will be maintained at www.ci.lynnwood.wa.us under City Services, Public Projects, Water & Sewer, 212th Waterline Replacement. Starting Monday, Nov. 9, status report updates will posted on the site. Updates can be received by email at www.ci.lynnwood.wa.us/eNews.
