The City of Lynnwood is teaming up with eager citizens for an opportunity to contribute time and energy to the beautification of the City’s public spaces.

The new Adopt-a-Garden program, initiated by the Community Health and Safety Section of the Lynnwood Police Department in coordination with the Parks Department, was created in response to citizen requests for manageable and meaningful volunteer activities within the city.

During the economic down turn, many cities, including Lynnwood, were faced with drastic budget cuts. Lynnwood eliminated the floral plantings at the entrances to the city, Civic Center and its many parks. This program acts as a bridge to engage the public in the revitalization of public areas and promotes civic engagement.

Volunteer groups may be corporate/commercial, volunteer organizations or community groups. Those who Adopt-a-Garden are responsible for purchasing, planting, and maintenance of the garden plot. There are two plantings per year. Plant choices and planting sessions are conducted under the supervision of Parks Maintenance, who installed irrigation at each site.

In recognition for the sponsoring volunteer’s commitment, a sponsor name plaque is mounted under each Adopt-a-Garden sign posted at each location.
