Lynnwood charity helping a record number of needy children

Lynnwood-based Clothes for Kids helped a record number of children in Snohomish County this year. The charity provided over 5,200 wardrobes to needy kids during the 2009 – 2010 school year. Just two years ago they provided 3,500 wardrobes.

“We have seen the need increase each year, and thankfully, due to our volunteers as well as the support in the community from individuals, businesses, and community organizations, Clothes for Kids has been able to meet that demand,” Executive Director Inga Paige said.

Clothes for Kids is a referral-based organization. Children receive a referral from their school counselor, teacher or administrator. The children and their parents then shop in a retail store environment and select a full wardrobe from a selection of new and gently used clothing. They may visit Clothes for Kids twice per year — once in the fall and once in the spring.

“To every volunteer who contributed to more than 7,900 volunteer hours this year, every donor and community group that helped us meet this need, we send our deepest appreciation,” Paige said.

Donations of new or gently used children’s clothing is accepted Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m – 1 p.m. at 16725 52nd Avenue West. Monetary donations can be made online.
