The student council at College Place Elementary decided to do something to help the children in Japan who were affected by last month’s earthquake and tsunami.

After seeing a news report about a small child whose only possession was a Winnie the Pooh bear, the students launched Operation Teddy Bears to collect stuffed animals for the young victims. They contacted KIRO radio, which was already collecting supplies for children who were orphaned after the disaster.

During the one-week drive, College Place students collected more than 300 bears and stuffed animals.  The bears have been delivered to the radio station and are currently making their way to children in need.
