Community Transit suspends Sunday service starting tomorrow

Tomorrow will be the first Sunday that Community Transit buses won’t be running.

The agency suspended all Sunday and holiday service to save $16 million over two years as it tries to recover from lower sales tax revenue brought on by the recession.

“This is a service suspension and we are working hard to get additional funding to restore that service as soon as possible,” said Community Transit CEO Joyce Eleanor.

So what are your options? The agency says riders should call the North Sound 2-1-1 social services hotline for help with transportation on Sundays. They also hope their Van GO  program will help offset some of the cuts.

Everett Transit, King County Metro and Sound Transit will continue to operate on Sundays.

The first major holiday without service will be the Fourth of July. Because the holiday falls on a Sunday this year and is officially recognized on July 5, there will be no bus service on either Sunday, July 4, or Monday, July 5.
