Community Transit encourages commuters to ‘Bike to Work’ on Friday

community-transit-logoBike to Work Day is Friday, May 15 and Community Transit is encouraging people to get out of their car and pedal to the office that day.

May is Bike Month, and Community Transit is promoting the use of bikes and buses all month. On Friday, Cascade Bicycle Club and F5 are teaming up to sponsor Bike to Work Day, encouraging local residents to ride their bicycles to work, or at least part of the way.

Community Transit will be sponsoring Commuter Stations at the Lynnwood Transit Center from 6 to 9 a.m. Cyclists can stop in to fuel up with snacks and drinks, get free souvenirs, enter drawings for fabulous prizes and have a bike mechanic look over their bike.

Oxy Gene, defender of truth, justice and really clean air, will be on hand to greet riders at the Commuter Stations at the Lynnwood Transit Center (7:15-9 a.m.). There will be a total of nine Commuter Stations across Snohomish County; see the list below. Last year, more than 800 cyclists stopped by a station on Bike to Work morning.

Community Transit encourages people to incorporate bikes and buses in their daily commute. Every Community Transit bus is equipped with a rack. Community Transit has instructional videos showing how to use the bike racks and discussing the value of bikes on buses. Bus riders can also store their bikes at bike lockers located at park & rides throughout the county. Community Transit produces a Snohomish County Bike Map which highlights trails and bike accessibility throughout the county. Learn more at www.communitytransit.org/bikes.
