A Kirkland couple is being honored as “Everyday Heroes” for coming to the rescue of two small children in Lynnwood.
This past March, Ryan and Lonnie King were driving along 184th Street SW when they noticed a mini-van rolling backward out of a store parking lot, then over a retention wall and into traffic. They also saw two little boys in the back and no driver in the front.
Ryan King put his vehicle in reverse and tried to intercept the runaway van. The corner of the van struck his vehicle and he was able to slow the van to a controlled stop. King and his wife got the children out and called 911.
The 2-year-old and 3-year-old boys had been left unattended in the van while their mother was grocery shopping. The 3-year-old was found standing in the van and the 2-year-old was strapped in his car seat. The keys were still in the ignition.
The mother was cited for reckless endangerment.
The Lynnwood Police Department and Kiwanis recently awarded the Ryan and Lonnie King with the Kiwanis “Everyday Heroes” plaque.
