A fire destroyed an abandoned house and a motorhome Wednesday morning in unincorporated Snohomish County north of Lynnwood.

Fire dispatchers received multiple 911 calls as flames engulfed the house in the 13600 block of 26th Pl. W. just before 11 a.m. “The house is located just east of Highway 99 north of Lincoln Way. A large column of black smoke from the fire was visible from miles away,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

“About 75 percent of the house was on fire when our first engine company arrived and flames had spread to the motorhome parked near the driveway,” she said.

Two women lived in the motorhome. They were asleep when the fire broke out in the house and both women were able to safely exit before the fire reached the vehicle.

The motorhome and the house are a total loss. Red Cross is assisting the women.

Neighbors reported seeing squatters staying in the house, which had been abandoned for some time. There was no power to the structure.

Firefighters from Fire District 1, Mukilteo and Lynnwood responded and had the fire under control in about 30 minutes. No one was injured.

The fire is being investigated by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office.
