Snohomish County Deputy Rebecca Lewis, who works as the school resource officer at Lynnwood High School, has been named Deputy of the Year by the Sheriff’s Office. She will be honored at an awards ceremony in January.

In addition to serving as the school resource officer, Lewis started teaching Law and Justice this year. She also volunteers with the girls basketball team.

Earlier this year the Edmonds School District considered eliminating the resource officer position due to budget cuts, but they managed to retain it by having Lewis teach the Law and Justice class. It’s the first time in the district that a police officer has taught in the classroom.

Lewis has been with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office for six years.  Before working at Lynnwood High she was a detective with the Special Investigations Unit where she investigated crimes against children.
