Honoring domestic violence victims

While many domestic violence incidents aren’t even reported, in 2009 the Lynnwood Police Department responded to 860 domestic violence related calls. That means officers responded to domestic violence calls every 10 hours. Through September of this year, the department has already responded to 640 calls.

In an effort to increase awareness of domestic violence in our community, several south Snohomish County cities are giving out free purple light bulbs for business owners and residents to shine on their porch. The bulbs may be picked up at the police department.

Coordinators are also planning a candlelight vigil at 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday at the Edmonds Police Department (250 Fifth Ave. N.)  Candles will be provided.
