Driver killed in I-5 crash identified

The driver killed in an I-5 accident near the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center late Sunday night was identified Tuesday as Magarbi Matthew, 22, of Bremerton.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Matthew was killed when the 2002 Honda Accord he was driving northbound on I-5 struck the freeway barrier near the support for the Freeway Flyer Station pedestrian bridge, then crossed a couple lanes of traffic and struck the rear axle of a 1988 Marmet tanker truck being driven by Phuong Truong, 50, of Puyallup. The force of the collision caused the tanker truck to tip over onto the Honda.

Matthew died at the scene of the accident; Truong was uninjured. There were no passengers in either the Honda or the tanker truck.
All lanes of northbound I-5 between the King-Snohomish County line and 220th Street Southwest were closed for more than seven hours following the accident on Feb. 16.
