Edmonds Community College men and women basketball teams both fall to Bellevue

It took the Bellevue Bulldogs all 40 minutes to earn a 63-60 win against the Edmonds Community College in a NWAACC men’s basketball game Wednesday night in Seaview Gymnasium.

Edmonds had the early advantage but Bellevue opened up an 11-point lead midway through the second half. The game looked well in hand for the visitors but Triton Ramsey Rosales did as much as he could to bring EdCC back from the brink. The freshman guard from Glacier Peak High School nailed three straight from behind the arc – including converting a four-point play – to give the Tritons a chance at the end of regulation. Badhasa Margarsa’s rushed 3-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed out, sealing the victory for Bellevue.

Zach Pederson contributed 20 points and Peyton Pervier grabbed 11 rebounds for EdCC. Austin O’Keefe paced the Bulldog attack with 29 points. Edmonds dropped to 1-3 in league with the loss. The Tritons are now 9-8 on the season. Bellevue improved to 4-0 in league, and 10-7 overall.

Next up for EdCC is Shoreline on Saturday night. Tip-off in Seaview Gym is set for 7 pm.

The Edmonds Community College women’s team outscored visiting Bellevue College 30-19 over the final 20 minutes of play, but it wasn’t enough to overcome another sluggish start as the Tritons fell by a score of 58-45.

EdCC has struggled out of the gate recently and Wednesday was no different. The Bulldogs started out on a 10-0 run and led at one point 17-5. The two teams entered intermission with BC leading 39-15.

Whatever EdCC coaches Ron Newton and Shayla Ball said during halftime must have worked as the Tritons looked like a completely different team in the second. Edmonds came out strong, cutting a 24-point deficit to just 13. The Bulldogs righted the ship, however, and retook control of the game before a late Triton run at the end.

Besides the slow start, 28 turnovers and getting outrebounded (45-29) really hurt EdCC against the athletic BC squad.

Danielle Smythe led Edmonds with 12 points with Haruka Miyagi adding 9 points. Ellie Greene had 8 points. Jasmine McEachin chipped in with 7 points. Newcomer Maile Keanu added 5 points and 5 boards.

Three Bulldogs scored in double-figures, led by Alexis Berry smith and Jori Hall’s 12 points.

The Tritons welcome Shoreline CC on Saturday, January 18. Tip-off is at 5 pm.
