The Edmonds Community College men’s basketball team wrapped up the 2013-14 campaign with a 74-65 loss to Clark College Tuesday afternoon in the NWAACC fifth-place game at the Toyota Center.

The biggest story of the contest – literally – was the second rebound of the game for Triton 7-foot post Payton Pervier. With that board, Pervier broke the all-time record for rebounding at the tournament with his 70th rebound. By the final buzzer, Pervier had set the mark at 81 boards.

He also was tied for team-high scoring honors with 11 points and Pervier blocked 7 shots, but the Tritons had trouble containing a balanced scoring attack from Clark. The Penguins had four players in double figures, led by Max Livingston’s 16 points. Sean Price came down with 13 rebounds.

The two teams traded buckets for much of the first half, with neither squad holding an edge larger than Edmonds’ seven point lead at the 13:48 mark of the initial period. Price connected on a field goal with six seconds left in the half to give the Penguins a 40-36 lead at the break.

The Tritons didn’t score for the first four minutes of the period, and found themselves down by 17 points in a flash. At the midway mark, Clark jumped on top by 18 points on a field goal from Ronalds Elksnis, but Edmonds used a 12-4 run to get within ten.

With a minute to go, they’d fought to within seven points, but it was too late. Clark hit nearly all of their free throws in the final minute to hang on and win by 11, at 75-64.

It was an off-shooting day for Edmonds, a 180 from the day before. The Tritons shot just 34 percent (24 of 70) against Clark and made only 29 percent (8 of 28) of their 3-pointers. Edmonds would make just 9 of 17 from the free throw line as well.

Edmonds sophomores Badhasa Margarsa and Stefan Johnson played in their final game in a Triton uniform. Margarsa had 8 points, 5 assists and 5 boards with Johnson adding 9 points and 4 rebounds. Freshman guard Devin Stoen came off the bench to score 11 points. Fellow freshmen Zach Pederson and Sam Omondi each chipped in with 9 points.

The Tritons end the year with a 19-12 overall record. The top-ranked Penguins, champions of the West Region, finish 27-2.
