The NWAACC North match up with the Pirates reflected the entire season for the Edmonds women’s basketball squad – the team plays well for 25-30 minutes but does next to nothing for the rest of the time.
The Tritons failed to score for the first five minutes the game and were behind by 21 points before waking up and going on a run to end the first half. Edmonds trailed at the break by just eight points and closed the gap to just four points a few minutes into the second half.
Peninsula held off the Triton charge before another Edmonds run had the team within four points again – 56-52 – with just over two minutes remaining. Those would be the final points for Edmonds, however, as the Pirates closed out the game with a 9-0 run.
Edmonds turned the ball over just 16 times against PC and matched the Pirates with 40 rebounds, but the Tritons were only 3 of 14 from 3-point range and just 5 of 11 from the free throw line.
Leading Edmonds in the loss was sophomore guard Jasmine McEachin who had 19 points and 4 rebounds. Freshman guard Ellie Greene contributed 15 points and 6 boards. Sophomore guard Dani Smythe added 8 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore forward Tania Velasco-Bono had 6 points and 6 boards with sophomore forward Maile Keanu adding 5 points and 9 boards.
A trio of Pirates scored in double-figures Wednesday paced by 18 points from Madison Pilster. Jonelle Staveland had 15 points with Alison Knowles adding 13 points.
The loss dropped Edmonds CC to 1-18 overall, 0-9 league. The Pirates improved to 8-11, 5-4 North.
