Edmonds Community College's Kingsbury, Smith inducted into NWAACC Hall of Fame

Fomer Edmonds Community College men’s basketball coach Keith Kingsbury and former Edmonds Community College athletic director George Smith were two of 10 inductees into the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Hall of Fame on May 30.

Also inducted was former Edmonds Community College women’s basketball coach Ciara Papac, who was recognized for her basketball career at Everett Community College from 2000-02.

Here are the highlights for the inductees.


Edmonds Community College  1969-2005

  • Assistant Men’s Basketball coach for four years
  • Head Men’s Basketball coach for 32 years
  • Compiled 570 wins at Edmonds
  • Made 18 NWAACC postseason appearances
  • Won Championship in 1985, second in 1993, third in 2001, fourth in 1979
  • Has sent over 100 players to the four-year level, including 25 to NCAA Division I ranks
  • Most wins for a coach in EdCC history


Edmonds Community College 1979 to present (34 years)

  • Athletic Director at EdCC 1982-89
  • Dean of Students 1988-98
  • VP of Student Services 1998 to present
  • Served as EdCC NWAACC Commissioner, NWAACC Executive Board, Northern Region Commissioner and North Region Chair (1986-87)
  • During tenure as Athletic Director, EdCC teams won five division titles, two NWAACC Championships (baseball 1985 & 1986) and men’s basketball (1985); in total EdCC had 12 teams place in the top 6 of NWAACC championships when George was AD.
  • Received the Excellence in Education Award at EdCC (2010)
  • Received EdCC President’s Award (1994)
  • George as served at athletic director, dean, university vice president and interim president.


Everett Community College 2000-2002

  • Led women’s basketball conference in total points and assists in 2001-02
  • Team Captain 2000-02
  • NWAACC North Region, 1st Team All Star 2000-01
  • All Tournament Team and every tournament attended
  • EvCC Female Athlete of the Year 2000-01
  • Received full athletic scholarship – Division I – Cal State University 2002-04
  • Head W. Basketball Coach at Edmonds Community College 2004-05
  • National Basketball Director of the Year (Top 2)
  • Sports Illustrated for Kids – 2004
