Edmonds District Special Olympics teams compete at state

At the state tournament in Fort Lewis, Edmonds School District Special Olympics teams excelled. The Lynnwood High School Unified soccer team took sixth place. The Mountlake Terrace High School Unified soccer team finished fifth. District teams also competed in many track events and both district 400-meter relay teams took second place.

Some 2,700 Special Olympics athletes competed in the three-day event in track and field, soccer, swimming, cycling and powerlifting.

Many of the Edmonds School District athletes who competed at the Summer Games are participants in the district’s VOICE Program, (Vocational Opportunities in Community Experiences). The program is designed for students 18-21 who have completed four years of high school and are now involved in a curriculum to prepare them for adult life.
