Investigators are trying to find the cause of a fire that destroyed an Edmonds home.
The fire happened just after 11 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 17500 block of 72nd Avenue W. Eight teenage girls attending a sleepover said they saw smoke coming from the basement and then heard the smoke alarms. Everyone got out safely.
“Firefighters responding from downtown Edmonds could see a large column of black smoke,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1, which provides fire service to the City of Edmonds. “When they arrived, half the house was engulfed and flames were already through the roof.”
It took more than two dozen firefighters about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The damage is estimated at $275,000. The residents were insured.
