Edmonds School District named among the best for music education

For the third straight year, the Edmonds School District has been recognized as one the “Best Communities for Music Education” in the U.S. The honor was given by the NAMM Foundation (National Association of Music Merchants), which acknowledges schools for their commitment to music education.

“This honor reflects not only the excellence of our musical groups and instruction, but also the great district and community support that we have,” said Scott Barnes, Director of Visual and Performing Arts.

An example of why the Edmonds District stands out is at Meadowdale High School. The school’s Impressions vocal jazz band was recently honored with an “Outstanding High School Performance Award” in Down Beat magazine’s 2011 student music awards. The group performs at several concerts and jazz festivals throughout the Northwest every year.

Edmonds is one of only two Washington state districts and 167 nationally to be recognized this year by NAMM.
