In May, 2021 Gallery North’s featured exhibit is “Chasing Reflections”, an exhibit by award winning photographer and painter Silena Wei Chen.
Known for her painterly photography, Silena uses light as paint and the camera as her brush to create surrealistic images in camera. From shooting seascapes to chasing the fleeting reflections in the water, much of her work was inspired by the interaction between ocean and sky afterglow along the west coast. In this exhibition, along with her signature work of ocean sky scenes captured at the Edmonds beach, Silena will present a series of abstract works inspired by water reflections, Chinese ink paintings, and metallic abstracts.
“I love looking into the water. Water dances with sky, with wind, and with light. Dancing water renders a breathtaking form that speaks to me and inspires me. Every dance has a story behind it, I hope the viewers can share a visual echo through my works.” – Silena Wei Chen
In addition to her photographic work, Silena also creates oil and acrylic paintings. Searching for the harmony and collision of colors she represent the places where dreams and memories linger.
After growing up in China, Silena moved to the United States 20 years ago and currently resides in Seattle, Washington. She holds a MS in Computer Science from the University of Arizona and worked as a professional software engineer and architect throughout her career.
Because of Covid restrictions, there will be no opening reception for “Chasing Reflections”. However, the public is invited to meet the artist on Saturday, May 1st from 2pm to 5pm at Gallery North and during the third Thursday Edmonds Art Walk on May 20th from 5-8pm. This exhibit will be open to the public from May 1st – May 31th.
