Gallery North September Featured Exhibit Opens – “Flying Colors” by Artist Silena Wei Chen
In September Gallery North’s featured exhibit is “Flying Colors”, an exhibit by award-winning photographer and painter, Silena Wei Chen.
Known for her pai¬¬¬¬nterly photography, Chen uses light as paint and the camera as her brush to create surrealistic images in camera. Growing up in China, Chen’s passion for photography started when she used her father’s optical camera to explore the natural world as a teenager. During many years of exploration and practice, she has found her own distinctive style. Much of her work was inspired by the interaction between ocean and sky afterglow on the west coast. Characterized by the subtle transition of colors and shades in her photo work, the artist’s tenet is to celebrate the ephemeral beauty that she sees through her lens, and take the viewers to a peaceful and imaginative world on the sea.
In addition to her photographic work, Chen also explores oil and acrylic painting. What always fascinates her is to search for the harmony and collision of colors in order to represent the places where dreams and memories linger in an alternative way.

You are invited to meet the artist and enjoy refreshments at the opening reception on September 7th from 1pm to 4pm at Gallery North. There also is a reception during the third Thursday Edmonds Art Walk on September 19th from 5-8pm. This exhibit will be open to the public from September 1st – September 30th.
