Health-focused organizations host a FREE Couch to 8K community training program for Seattle’s Beat the Bridge Walk/Run

On May 17, 2015 thousands of people will be participating in Seattle’s Beat theBridge Walk/Run, a fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the largest nongovernmental funder of research to cure, beat and prevent type 1 diabetes (T1D).

To help walk/runners prepare, Experience Momentum, in a joint venture with Verdant Health Commission, is offering a FREE eight-week ‘Couch to 8K’ training program, to get local area participants ready for this big event. They are all about empowering the community to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Open to the public, the Couch to 8K Training Program will include:
• Five Tuesday evening workshops covering the following topics:
o What to expect and how to design your walk/jog program (3/17)
o Nutrition to fuel your body (3/31)
o Injury prevention (4/14)
o Managing the mental aspect of it all (4/28)
o Making fitness a lifestyle (5/12)
• Saturday Group Walk/Run Training Sessions with physical therapist Shanon Tysland
• Participation with “Team Verdant” in the Beat the Bridge Walk/Run
• Celebration Party!!
