In April, Gallery North features “Moment & Eternity”, an exhibit of photography and oil paintings by award-winning artist Wei Chen. The artist uses light as paint and the camera as her brush to create surrealistic, in-camera images.
This show at Gallery North includes Wei’s new work from her painterly photography series and also from her Fishing Poetry series. In Wei Chen’s Fishing Poetry photographs, taken while traveling in Asia in 2016, the artist captures the essence of a South Sea fishing region in a unique, woodcut-like style.
For Wei, travel has been a great learning experience – opening her eyes to many beautiful things that are simply the daily life for the local people. Her travels have led her to reflect upon and to cherish the mundane experiences in her own life. The artist has found herself driven to record this sublime simplicity and share it with others.
In addition to her photographic work, Wei explores the medium of oil painting in this exhibit with impressionistic paintings which also record the sentiments of her travels.
The public is invited to meet artist Wei Chen and enjoy refreshments at the opening reception for “Moment & Eternity,” held on April 8th from 1pm to 4pm at Gallery North. The artist also will be present at Gallery North during the Edmonds Art Walk on April 20th from 5-8pm. There will be a drawing for a free print of the artist’s work at both receptions. This exhibit will be open to the public from April 1st to April 30th.
