Of Earth and It’s Treasures
Aug 1, 2022 - Aug 31, 2022
For the month of August, Gallery North is proud to present “Of Earth and It’s Treasures”, by pastel and acrylic painter Susan Swapp, with a few watercolor and oil paintings also. Running from August 1 – 31, the exhibit is open to the public daily from 11-5.
Sue received her basic art education with the Art Instruction School in Minneapolis, but has continued exploring new concepts, paints, and techniques with a growing written library, area workshops and classes. Sue is a signature member of the Northwest Pastel Society of Washington state.
The diverse wildlife throughout the state offers views of their everyday antics and habits of survival. Photography lets us capture these moments. Numerous photographic friends allow Sue to use their images for her paintings, of both wildlife and nature. Our area gives us so much beauty and variety in and of itself. Painting allows the rearrangement of images that nature sometimes confuses.
“I have seen much of our great country and the world while traveling with a Navy husband for 23 years. Upon retirement, we were able to return to the Pacific Northwest that was always “Home”.”
Sue’s art is in collections in Europe, Canada, and throughout the U.S. Her work is accepted in many juried shows and she has received multiple awards for her work, including museum awards and “Best in Shows”. She has been asked to participate in specific shows and festivals. Sue’s art is currently being shown at Gallery North in Edmonds and The Gallery of Ocean Shores, where she has taught pastel classes. She continually has greeting cards available at Watermark Book Company in Anacortes.
Sue’s work was selected to be a part of the second edition book, “Artists of the West”.
Sue’s originals are all custom framed and giclee prints are custom printed for her. She is also painting on tiles and glass now, to offer small originals for the smaller home. Sue does some selected commission work.
There will be a “Meet the Artist” reception on Saturday, August 6 from 1-4, and during Art Walk on August 18 from 5-8 pm.
