Partners in Parenting: Stop Fighting, Find Balance

HELPING OUR CHILDREN (AND OURSELVES) FIND BALANCE WITH TECHNOLOGY IN AN AGE OF DIGITAL DISTRACTION

Emily Cherkin, The Screentime Consultant, LLC, will be on campus for our first Partners in Parenting event of the year. She has spent over 15 years working with families, schools, and children across rapidly-changing digital landscapes. A longtime classroom teacher, a current parent, and a conflicted user of technology, Emily’s talk will focus on technological changes over time, address current research about screens and brain development, and challenge parents to look at family technology use. A unique aspect of Emily’s talk is the inclusion of anonymous survey results of the student and faculty community at Soundview School to help illuminate the challenges on a local and personal level. The good news is: in an Age of Digital Distraction, it IS possible to find balance! Armed with humor, empathy, and evidence-based research, Emily will help our community to normalize, strategize, and optimize the way screentime affects us as individuals and families. Emily is “tech-positive” and recognizes that technology is here to stay. As with most things in life, it is about finding balance! Her talk will leave you optimistic, energized, and armed with a few take-home strategies to implement.
