Gallery North announces its July exhibit “From the Earth, Of the Earth” with ceramic work by Melinda O’Malley and paintings by Leah Rene Welch. The earth is integral to each of these artists, both as a material and a subject.
Melinda O’Malley’s pottery ranges from whimsical dragons to functional serving trays. Melinda enjoys color in her ceramics and often glazes her work in greens and blues. Over the years, her dragons have become familiar to many Gallery North visitors. She tries to keep her art fresh and interesting by trying new techniques. The artist has also started featuring her original photographs fired as decals onto her pieces.
Edmonds Artist Leah Rene Welch is known for her vibrant, heavily-textured finger paintings and use of alternative painting tools. Recently she has wiped off her fingers and picked up her brush. Inspired by the landscape of the Pacific Northwest Leah has softened her palette, selecting more soothing subjects and colors in an ethereal style.
During the month of July there will be a silent auction for one of Leah’s paintings with the full amount going to the Sierra Club or an environmental organization of the highest bidder’s choice. All are welcome to attend the artists’ reception on July 8th from 3-6pm and on July 20th for Art Walk Edmonds from 5-8pm. At these receptions you can enjoy refreshments and meet the artists as you view or purchase their work. “From the Earth, Of the Earth” is open to the public daily through July 31st.
