Walk for Mental Health Awareness in the 14th Annual NAMIWalks Washington

The 14th Annual NAMIWalks Washington, benefiting NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, of Washington and its 20 statewide affiliates, will be held on Saturday, June 2 at Marina Park, 25 Lakeshore Plaza in Kirkland, WA. Check-in and family-friendly entertainment will begin at 8:00 am, with step-off for the 5K walk at 9:00 am. The Walk will be held rain or shine.

Proceeds from the event will benefit NAMI Washington and its affiliates to improve the quality of life for individuals living with mental illness and their families through NAMI’s education, support, and community programs – all provided free of charge to more than 30,000 Washingtonians annually.

“While Washington’s elected leaders have worked to invest in our behavioral health system over the past few years, Washington still ranks 34th out of 50 states for access to and provision of community based mental health care services. With 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 10 children living with a serious mental illness each year, we still have a lot of work to do to improve Washington’s behavioral health system and the safety net programs needed to support recovery” says Lauren Simonds, Executive Director of NAMI Washington. “NAMIWalks gives everyone the opportunity to fight mental illness stigma and create awareness, while also supporting NAMI by raising much needed funds to support our peer-led programs and services.”
