In May, as spring reaches its peak of beauty in the Northwest, Gallery North features an exhibit of watercolors by artist Catherine M. James titled “Heart of the Garden”. Catherine’s vibrant paintings immerse the viewer in the stillness and beauty of worlds within trees and plants. The artist focuses in on the details of small and magical moments that capture the true essence of a garden.
Catherine’s watercolor paintings feature bright colors set off by rich dramatic darks. Using exquisite detail, she pulls the viewer into the painting for a closer look. The artist’s work is influenced by Japanese prints and Asian design.
“Heart of the Garden” includes more than twenty of Catherine’s most recent original paintings. Her newest work includes close-ups that show tapestries of pattern. Subjects are often lit from behind to create an almost stained-glass glow. Also available are fine art prints and cards of the artist’s work.
You are invited to meet the artist and enjoy refreshments at the opening reception for “Heart of the Garden,” held on Saturday, May 7 from 1pm to 4pm at Gallery North. Catherine James will also be present at Gallery North during the Edmonds Art Walk on Thursday, May 19 from 5-8pm. This exhibit is open to the public daily through May 31st.
