Snohomish County Fire District 1 commissioners have elected David Chan to serve as board chair and Millie Judge to serve as vice chair for 2011.
Chan has served on the board for five years. A resident of the Lake Stickney area, he is a business consultant and certified public accountant.
“Fire District 1 has a very clear vision of financial stability and working with neighboring entities to make the fire service more efficient,” Chan said. “I look forward to working with my fellow commissioners and staff to continue to pursue this vision and operate a well-run organization.”
Vice Chair Judge has been a commissioner for one year. She is an attorney specializing in municipal, land use and environmental law and serves as the Snohomish County Hearing Examiner.
Commissioners also presented a plaque to honor Commissioner Jim Kenny, who has served five one-year terms as chairman since joining the board in 2003. “I have been watching and learning from a master at work sitting in this chair conducting meetings,” Chan said. “Because of Commissioner Kenny’s vision and leadership, Fire District 1 is financially strong and has become a bigger family with Edmonds joining us last year.”
The Board of Commissioners is responsible for defining the fire district’s long-term vision and for adopting policies to be implemented by administrative staff. Commissioners are elected by the public to six-year terms.
