Food banks around Snohomish County will benefit from a $5,000 donation from the Fire 1 Foundation — a non-profit founded by employees of Fire District 1.
“Supporting food bank programs is a tradition for Fire District 1 that started almost 20 years ago when a group of firefighters passed the hat to collect money to sponsor a family for the holidays. It grew from there,” said Jim Grieco, president of the Fire 1 Foundation and a captain at Fire Station 10 north of Lynnwood.
Over the years, Fire District 1 firefighters have raised more than $60,000 for the Volunteers of America food bank programs.
“We’re grateful to the businesses and citizens that have supported our fundraising efforts and made it possible for firefighters to go above and beyond in meeting the needs of the citizens we serve,” Grieco added.
